Family Birth Center: Before Discharge
Pictures
If you want to order pictures, please have your Baby First Foto order form completed. Baby pictures will be taken before
discharge, usually at nighttime.
Birth Certificate
Complete the birth certificate worksheet and give it to your nurse.
Paternity Affidavit
If you are unmarried, or have a different last name than the father’s, and wish to have the baby’s father’s name on the birth certificate, please refer to the information included in the packet.
Newborn Screening Tests
Your baby will have a blood test for newborn screening (see Screening Tests). This is done by taking a small amount of blood from your baby’s heel. This test screens for several different disorders and diseases.
Newborn Hearing Screening Your baby will have a hearing screen after 24 hours of age. It is very important to detect
hearing problems at an early age.
Hepatitis B Immunization
If you choose to, your baby will have the first hepatitis B immunization after it is born. Immunizations are discussed
further in the booklet provided at the time of your stay.
Assistance
Carts are available for transporting your belongings. We will accompany you and your baby to your car. Also, please remember to bring a car seat for your baby. It is the law. You will need transportation for you and your baby at the time your physician releases you to go home. If your car seat has a base, please strap it in before coming to the hospital. Nurses in the Family Birth Center will be happy to teach you and your family on the use of the car seat. We do have a car seat technician available during most weekdays.
Newspaper, Radio Announcements and Web Page
A News Release is provided for your convenience. If you desire to have baby’s birth announcement printed or
broadcasted, complete the form and give it to your nurse.
Videos
There are several videos concerning topics such as breastfeeding, car seat safety, infant CPR, and general care of your newborn that you and your family are encouraged to view during your stay at Gritman Medical Center. These videos are available to you at anytime and are very informative.
Best Wishes!
We hope this information is helpful to you and your family. If you have any other questions, the nurses caring for you during your stay will be happy to help you find answers. Congratulations to your and your family and have a wonderful beginning.
