Family Birth Center: Going Home
Knowing when you will leave the hospital can be very confusing. During your stay
in the Family Birth Center, we seek to provide you with individualized care during your labor and after the birth of your baby. We will continue to care for you during the first days following the birth by seeing you and your baby regularly to anticipate your care needs immediately and plan for your care at home. We know you will wonder how your baby is doing, and that you need to get your questions answered to increase your comfort after birth. Our commitment to you and your family is individualized. We are dedicated to providing excellent education, care and support to you and your family throughout your pregnancy, birth experience and through the first year following the birth of your baby.
Length of Stay
After an uncomplicated vaginal birth, you can expect to go home between 24 and 48 hours after birth. After a
cesarean birth, you will go home approximately 72 hours after birth. The time of discharge will depend on the time of day
your baby was born and whether or not you experienced any complications.
Your "First Steps" Welcome
A First Steps welcome baby packet filled with parenting resources, infant development and support information will be
provided to every family. It includes a developmental first year calendar, baby book, community compass, and educational and
resource materials--all from a First Steps specialist.
