Orthopedic Sports Medicine – ‘Recipe for Their Best Care’

Dr. Leo Chough Joins Gritman Orthopedic Surgeons

Gritman Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Leo Chough wants to help athletes of all ages get back to the activities they enjoy.

“I provide general Orthopedic Surgery services, but I do have a background in Sports Medicine, an extra year of training that I chose simply because that was my interest. So, I hope to bring high-level Sports Medicine care to the community.”

Dr. Chough has worked with athletes of all ages, from high school and college players to MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL team members, Winter X Games participants and contestants on the TV show “Survivor.” His overarching goal is to help everyone from professional athletes to those looking to get back to everyday activities like gardening, quilting and walking outside.

He connects with his patients through a shared passion for staying active. Recognizing that athletes sometimes get injured, he knew early that he wanted to play a role in helping these athletes recover – getting them back to playing at their best.

“What I hope to bring to the community with patients is that I’m their advocate and I want to treat everyone as though they were a family member. I like interacting with people and being part of the recipe for their best care.” – Dr. Leo Chough, Orthopedic Surgeon
“What I hope to bring to the community with patients is I’m their advocate and I want to treat everyone as though they were a family member,” he said. “I like interacting with people and being part of the recipe for their best care.”

Dr. Chough joins an established practice led by Dr. Marvin Kym, an Orthopedic Surgeon with three decades of experience in getting patients back to their lives with less pain and more mobility. Gritman Orthopedic Surgeons is certified as a Joint Center of Excellence for Hip and Knee Replacement by The Joint Commission and meets the highest clinical standards for quality and patient outcome.

“I’m very motivated for Gritman and the Palouse region because I instantaneously recognized there’s a team approach that involves everyone from patients to doctors to Physical Therapists, Administration, across the board,” he said. “It’s a wonderful place because we’re all like-minded and want to have the best care available for people locally.”

Dr. Chough’s expertise covers a broad range of services within Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Areas include:

  • Sports Medicine
  • Arthroscopic Surgery
  • Knee Replacement
  • Shoulder Replacement
  • Robotic-Assisted Surgery

An athlete himself, Dr. Chough participates in team recreational leagues including softball and basketball. He also enjoys exploring the many outdoor activities available to residents of the greater Palouse region.

“I have an understanding of what it means to participate in athletics as I still do that myself,” he said. “So, I want to make sure we can provide the best pathways so patients can continue participating in whatever athletic endeavor they choose.”

His expertise builds upon a robust and comprehensive Sports Medicine program to complement the advanced orthopedic care provided by Dr. Marvin Kym and Certified Physician Assistant Dan Turnblom.

The Gritman Orthopedic Surgeons team works alongside a full spectrum of care that includes Diagnostic Imaging, Primary Care, comprehensive pain management, education and therapy services, ensuring more patients can stay close to home for their healing and recovery.
