Gritman Plays Role in Advancing Veterinary Education at Washington State University

Supporting Future Veterinarians: Gritman’s Partnership with Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine Simulation-Based Education

It’s exciting to see our partnerships at work in the Greater Palouse community, including through the support of hands-on veterinary education from our neighbors at Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

WSU recently unveiled its new, state-of-the-art, 11,000-square-foot space for the Simulation-Based Education program — one of the most advanced veterinary simulation spaces available in the world. This facility is designed to help students develop essential clinical skills through hands-on practice before working with live patients. Simulation-Based Education at WSU College of Veterinary Medicine is the world’s only veterinary simulation program accredited by the Society for Simulation in health care.

“This partnership is a perfect demonstration of Gritman‘s innovative and responsible approach to medicine and their ongoing investment in our community.” – WSU College of Veterinary Medicine Simulation-Based Education Team

We’re proud to have a small role in their training and this robust program. For the past six years, Gritman’s Materials Management team and Green Team have been collecting and donating expired medical supplies to WSU’s veterinary program.

“All that practice requires medical supplies – and with over 500 students annually, supply costs become a significant barrier. That’s where the generous contributions from Gritman Medical Center are a huge support,” according to the team at Simulation-Based Education.

These supplies can no longer be used in the hospital but are perfect for training future veterinarians. Expired medical supplies allow students to practice critical techniques like scrubbing in for surgery, tying suture patterns, airway management for veterinary CPR, placing IVs, and mastering the skills they’ll need in the field.

According to SBE, Gritman’s supply donations “contribute to the health and wholeness of students’ future veterinary patients. This partnership is a perfect demonstration of Gritman‘s innovative and responsible approach to medicine and their ongoing investment in our community.”

We’re honored to assist in advancing veterinary education and look forward to seeing the incredible impact of WSU’s Simulation-Based Education program in the years to come!
