Quietly Living the Gritman Way

Westside Nurse Kellie Gregory Presented Annual Employee Award

Kellie Gregory loves working with patients and her co-workers each day at Gritman’s Moscow Family Medicine Westside clinic.

And while she passionately enjoys caring for the residents of our community, Kellie doesn’t seek the spotlight for her work, preferring to “fly under the radar.”

“Kellie’s heart and love for her patients is so BIG. Her patients and co-workers never doubt that they are in good hands and will be well taken care of when Kellie is around.”–Nominating Letter
Kellie’s quiet determination is among the reasons her Westside co-workers nominated her for her service, prompting her selection as winner of the 2023 Gritman Way Award. The award is presented annually to someone who lives Gritman’s Mission, Vision and Values.

In nominating her for the award, Kellie’s co-workers note the compassion she shows for her patients no matter the situation. She has even gone as far as to schedule an authentic surprise tea party for Dr. Helen Shearer and one of her longtime patients.

“Kellie’s heart and love for her patients is so BIG,” her co-workers wrote in a nominating letter. “Her patients and co-workers never doubt that they are in good hands and will be well taken care of when Kellie is around.”

Such praise is humbling for Kellie.

“They are amazing, my co-workers,” Kellie said. “Without them, I would not shine the way they see me, because they are amazing co-workers.”

Caring for others has always been part of Kellie’s determination. She first interacted with patients as a Certified Nursing Assistant at age 18, and later went on to complete her degree in nursing. Kellie admits taking a three-year detour to study Human Development at the University of Idaho before returning to nursing after the realization that the field was her true calling.

“I absolutely love what I do. If I wasn’t a nurse, I don’t know what I’d do,” she said. “It’s part of my being. It’s just part of me. I love my patients and my co-workers. If it weren’t for my wonderful patients, I wouldn’t have anyone to take care of! They make it worth coming every day, getting to be part of their lives and their families.”

Kellie wasn’t looking for a job when she joined Moscow Family Medicine 23 years ago. She had gone to the practice for a medical appointment when the nursing manager interacted with her and treated the visit as an impromptu job interview. Kellie has worked with the organization ever since, including the past 15 years as a Family Practice Nurse with Dr. Shearer at the Westside clinic.

Kellie quietly lives Gritman’s values of Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Excellence each day.

Whether she’s performing an EKG, giving a vaccine, educating patients, or completing paperwork, Kellie’s days keep busy caring for others. Despite growth throughout the organization, Kellie finds that Gritman retains the same community feeling she experienced when she started at Moscow Family Medicine 23 years ago.

The Gritman Way Award is given out each year to a team member who exemplifies Gritman Medical Center’s values: Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. Nominate an employee at gritman.org/nominate.

“I think the team that I work with is a wonderful team,” she said. “It still feels homey and right.”

Away from Gritman, Kellie is part of an outdoorsy family with a strong faith and a passion for vintage finds when thrift shopping around the region.

“I love my family,” she said. “I have three wonderful daughters who I absolutely adore. I love the outdoors. I love taking care of my plants and my puppies. I have a strong faith. I love my husband.”
