Pediatrician Dr. Steve Bii Joins Downtown Clinic
Pediatrician Dr. Steve Bii knows some of his patients are nervous the first time they meet with him at the doctor’s office.
He’s there to reassure those young patients – to make them smile and ease anxieties – whether it’s their first time going to the doctor, or they’ve come to his office to feel better.
“My goal is that all children are healthy, that they are able to participate, and they are able to go to school,” he said.
Dr. Bii sees patients at Gritman’s Moscow Family Medicine Downtown clinic as a pediatrician for children from birth through adolescence. He joins Pediatrician Dr. Summer Day and a team of Family Medicine providers at our downtown clinic.
In addition to being a child’s primary care physician, he also serves as a resource for families as they have questions about everything from acute illness to immunizations to setting children up for success as adults.
Originally from Kenya, Dr. Bii trained at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York before completing his internship and residency at the University of Washington. He Joins the Gritman Medical Center system after most recently completing a Pediatric Residency with Seattle Children’s Hospital through the University of Washington.
His interest in pediatrics grew during medical school. Dr. Bii didn’t have a pediatrician growing up and realized how important his role could be as an advocate for the health of young patients and their families.
Access to resources is particularly important during the first year of a child’s life. Dr. Bii is the father of twin 4-year-old boys and remembers working closely with their pediatrician during their care as newborns.
“When you are providing care to children, you are providing support to them over their lifetime,” he said. “You are modeling good behavior, vaccinations that prevent them from getting sick. You’re providing them with resources that will allow them to be a successful adult.”
Dr. Bii learned about Gritman through interactions with Dr. Day while completing his residency at Seattle Children’s. The community and the wide breadth of available services allows him to serve the community and fill a need for pediatric patients in the area.
“Being able to help, I can also find other people who want to help,” he said. “I want to see children happy. I feel that as a pediatrician, getting them through acute illnesses makes me happy, getting them through the process brings me a lot of satisfaction.”
Gritman’s Moscow Family Medicine Downtown clinic is located at 623 S. Main St., Moscow, and accepts all major forms of insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid.
