Neurosurgery: Specialty Brain and Spine Surgery

Surgeon Nicholas Levine Expands Access to Spine and Cranial Neurosurgery

Neurosurgeon Dr. Nicholas Levine has seen the results his surgeries have had on his patients suffering with longstanding brain and spine conditions.

“I can remember a couple coming into clinic after the husband had undergone a decompression surgery for his low back. He had had difficulty walking,” Dr. Levine remembers. “Before I could even sit down, his wife gave me a hug and said ‘Thank you for giving us our life back. We are now able to take walks together and spend time together.’ It’s really how you affect not just the patient’s life but the family’s life.”

“I’ve been impressed with the interest and love of the community for everyone I’ve talked to at Gritman. There is a sincere desire by everyone to work for the betterment of the community.” – Dr. Nicholas Levine, Gritman Neurosurgery

His Gritman Neurosurgery practice opens following the recent expansion of the C.L. Gritman Medical Office Building at 803 S. Investing in Advanced Technology

Dr. Levine has joined Gritman Medical Center to build the Gritman Neurosurgery program. Gritman is investing in advanced technology including Zeiss Kinevo 900 Neurological Microscope and Medtronic O-Arm Multidimensional Surgical Imaging System with Navigation and Stealth, which allow for real-time, 3-D images during spine and neurological procedures. Combined with Dr. Levine’s surgical expertise, this suite of state-of-the-art technology allows for surgeries that are more precise and lead to faster recovery.

Dr. Levine was initially inspired to go into medicine at age 8 after watching his 3-year-old sister successfully battle leukemia.

“I saw at the time the relationship she had with her oncologist. And other than the parent-child relationship I saw it as the most wonderful interaction even at that age that you could have,” he said.

Dr. Levine’s desire to help others has continued to grow throughout his career as his own specialty has become more advanced. Having neurosurgery services nearby is specifically important for him because of the multiple follow-ups that typically come with both cranial and spinal care, which keeps his patients both close to his services and their support system.

“I’m excited to be part of Gritman and be part of the Gritman Neurosurgery team and I’m excited to join the Moscow community.”
