Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Shelley Ringo Joins Gritman Orthopedic Surgeons and Sports Medicine
Sports Medicine Physician Dr. Shelley Ringo has joined Gritman Orthopedic Surgeons and Sports Medicine with a goal of getting patients back to the activities they enjoy.
Dr. Ringo provides care for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions that don’t require surgery. This ranges from emerging issues like fractures, strains and sprains, to chronic injuries, osteoarthritis and concussions.
“It is important to provide a place where all people are cared for and treated with respect,” she said. “My goal is to help people stay active, doing all the things they enjoy for as long as possible while maintaining a good quality of life.”
“I value interpersonal relationships and understand the importance of advocating for others,” she said. “This, combined with an interest in science, lent itself naturally to pursue a career in medicine.”
Dr. Ringo trained at the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed both her Internship and Residency in Family Medicine at Valley Family Medicine in western Washington. She went on to complete a Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine through the Idaho Sports Medicine Institute in Boise. She is Board-Certified in Family Medicine and Primary Care Sports Medicine.
She returns to Moscow after serving patients for about 15 years in the Boise area.
Dr. Ringo sees herself as a conduit between frontline primary care providers and the surgical team at Gritman Orthopedic Surgeons and Sports Medicine. She’s joining an organization with a comprehensive medical system where providers of different specialties are only a phone call away.
“I can provide a bridge between primary care, urgent care, physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons,” she said. “Improving access to medical care close to home helps to streamline care, limiting barriers to care and optimizing outcomes.”
Dr. Ringo’s Sports Medicine-related services include:
- Non-Operative Fracture Management
- Joint Injections
- Management of Acute Sprains and Strains
- Osteoarthritis Management
- Concussion Management
- Management of Tendonitis and Overuse Injuries
Her role at Gritman complements the work of the Gritman Orthopedic Surgeons and Sports Medicine team, working collaboratively with surgeons Dr. Marvin Kym and Dr. Leo Chough to provide the best outcomes for patients so they can return to the activities they enjoy.
